Are You Part Of The Minority?

Most people start their year with lofty goals and yet according to research at the University of Scranton only 8% of those who make New Year’s resolutions achieve their goal.

Here are 7 tips to help you stay on track in 2015:

Be specific – Often people set vague goals (i.e. I want to lose weight) that cannot be monitored or measured so it’s difficult to see progress.  Without progress it’s easy to get discouraged and quit.  Get specific and monitor and measure your results.  (i.e. how much weight do you want to lose by when?)

Make your goal attainable – It can feel daunting to go from where you are to your ideal because if you don’t believe you can achieve it.  Have your ideal end in mind but create attainable benchmarks so you can stack success and build the confidence necessary to achieve your goal.

Know why your goal is important – purpose provides motivation achieve your result.  What makes your goal a MUST right now?  How will you feel as you are achieving your goal? What will this achievement mean to you and to others?

Modify environment – Your environment must support your goals.   If achieving greater financial success is your goal it is important surround yourself with like-minded people.

Replace the behavior – If the goal is to stop drinking it is important to replace the bad habit with a healthier one.  Without the replacement behavior we continue to focus on what we don’t want and ultimately feel deprived.  Focus on what you want and create new habits around the desired behavior.

Avoid catch-up mentality – Creating new habits is about growth and consistency over time.   It’s important to remember setbacks happen.  Don’t try to “catch-up” when you miss a benchmark.  Stacking

setbacks is immobilizing.  Instead start each day fresh and take the next step toward your goal.

Create accountability – Schedule regular sessions with a coach or accountability partner.  Be sure you have someone who will hold you to high standards to help you achieve your goals.

Be part of the minority – achieve the life you deserve in 2015!
