Work Smarter Not Harder

When working with a new business client, I always ask “who is your ideal client?”  The answer I hear most often is, “anyone who will pay me” or I’m given a varied and unconnected list of client profiles. It’s no wonder that people have issues with client retention, when they don’t even know WHO they want to attract to their business!

We are taught by social media gurus, sales coaches and marketing firms that the primary way to get clients is from cold-calls and web leads.  We hear over and over; it’s a numbers game, you have to “hustle”, put in the hours, be the first one in, last to leave, and “out work the competition.”  For some people this is an effective plan but for most of us it feels overwhelming, intimidating, exhausting and unsustainable. And it’s also not very effective.

In this effort to cast a wide net for leads, we may catch a few, but it takes a lot of energy and isn’t very rewarding.  Thankfully, there is another way – work behaviorally intelligent.

Work smart – Understand your natural gifts and use that to help identify your ideal client: the client who will appreciate your business model, understand your approach and trust your judgment because you connect at a deeper level.

Consistency is critical – once you have identified your ideal client, communicating with them consistently is the key to long-term success.

Identify your ideal client – Use my Ideal Client video coupled with the Ideal Client Worksheet to help you gain clarity on who your ideal client is and you can focus your marketing efforts to a select group of candidates.

By understanding your natural gifts and working in harmony with your behavioral styles, you will attract potential clients who are in alignment with you and your business model.  By focusing on a narrower group of candidates who fit your profile for your ideal client , rather than spending a lot of money on mass marketing to everyone, you will be able to fine-tune your message and attract the people who want to work with you. By working smarter, instead of harder, you’ll be able to start building those relationships so you create clients for life.
