The Power of One

As The Ice Bucket Challenge sweeps the nation it’s important to recognize The Power of One.   We don’t achieve anything alone but it only takes ONE person to create momentum and make a difference in the lives of others.

The original Ice Buck Challenge started among professional golfers, either dump ice water on yourself or donate $100 to the charity of your choice.   Through the power of social media it traveled from ONE person to another reaching the wife of an ALS patient in Pelham, NY, then to Pat Quinn and on to Pete Frates who took the challenge to a new level and the rest is Facebook history.

As I watched Ice Bucket Challenge videos fill my Facebook feed I thought about how I would raise money and awareness if challenged.  I knew I didn’t have to wait to be challenged but I got busy so I did nothing.  Then Thursday evening our 9-year old friend Anabella Rivero challenged our family.  We decided to put a twist on the challenge – $2400, 24 buckets of ice water in 24 hours .   With the generosity of our friends and family through Facebook we surpassed our goal and raised $2750.  With our matching gifts the deserving charities recognize below received $5550 in donations in 24 hours.  It all started with ONE 9-year old’s challenge.

There are thousands of examples of the Power of ONE like Robby Eimers a 12-year-old boy who works to support Detroit’s Homeless, Veronica Mollica a Mom who initiated Random Act of Kindness week in Fairfield, CT.  Bruno Serato from Orange County, CA who feeds 1000 children everyday in 5 cities across the country. It only takes ONE person to have a powerful impact.

YOU ARE THE ONE!  What will you do with your POWER?

These are just a few deserving charities who need our support – keep giving!!
