Are You Productive?
Are you productive? For most people the answer changes daily and is based on quantitative output.
What activities do you “count” as productive? If you base productivity on quantity then checking items off your “to do” list may provide a momentary sense of productivity but it typically doesn’t last. When you base productivity on quantity no matter how much gets done there is always more “to do” so it never feels like you get enough accomplished.
The cost of our cultural obsession with busyness is bigger than we think. The New York Times article More Reflection, Less Action points out the the challenges of, and opportunities missed because of our need for activity over reflection.
The irony is in economic terms, productivity is defined as the ratio of what is produced to what is required to produce it. Under this guideline are you truly productive if you continue “to do” when the cost to produce is energetic, spiritual, and physical exhaustion?
You must fill yourself up first to overflow to those around you.
Would your results change if you considered exercise, reflection, meditation, reading, journaling, your hour of power, and weekly planning as productive time? Would your mindset improve knowing you are mentally, spiritually and physically prepared for the day ahead? How much would your energy increase with the momentum that comes from this stacked success?
Decide today to be productive, time-block for you and experience the difference!
