NOW Is The Perfect Time To Find A New Job
An unprecedented number of people are suddenly without a job, companies are facing more lay-offs after government funds have run out, and employees who stay in their current roles have the added pressure to do more with less people. With all of this going on, I hear a lot of people say it’s a hard time to change jobs; I say, if this pandemic has taught us anything it’s that it is much harder to work at a job every day that makes you miserable.
The truth is, we create stories to justify our circumstance because we are fearful of the unknown. It’s more comfortable to stay in our current situation than to try something new because what if it doesn’t work out? According to Gallup, it’s not working out for 67% of adults who are disengaged or actively disengaged in their work but aren’t leaving their current job. Meanwhile, it’s estimated the average person spends 90,000 hours of their lifetime working. Isn’t it time to consider, “what if it worked out?”
Could you make more money if you were happy? Could you advance faster if you were in a different culture? Could you show up more engaged if you had a difference boss? Could you attract more clients if you were doing what you loved? Could you be a better partner, parent, friend and/or colleague if you found joy in your daily activities?
Now is the perfect time to explore your options. Begin by getting clear on what you really want. Use my Ideal Career Worksheet to help you think through the characteristics of your ideal job. Then reconnect with your true self by answering the following questions:
- If money were no object what would I do?
- Where do I naturally spend my free time?
- What are my favorite activities? What do I enjoy about them?
- What are the character traits of the people I want in my life?
- What are my greatest strengths?
- What legacy do I want to leave?
- Where do I show up as my best self?
- What is my ideal work schedule?
- What is the experience I want each day?
Your answers will help you get clear on your natural interests and tendencies. Next, compare your answers to what you do now. If you have more discrepancies than you have similarities, it’s time to make a change. Open yourself up to the possibilities that exist today – NOW is the perfect time for you to find a new job!
