Unhappy, Look Around You
Take an inventory of the people in your life – are they spiritually, mentally, and financially rich? Are they optimistic, adventuresome, friendly, and fun; or are they fiscally and emotionally poor, pessimistic, challenging, unhappy, and rude?
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
Jim Rohn
In an effort to be a loyal friend or reliable family member do you tolerate behaviors and mindsets that are not in alignment with your own? If yes, it’s important to recognize it’s impacting your subconscious mind, your energy level, and your attitude.
Use the following WHO Inventory (worksheet available here and video above) to see how the people in your life are impacting your mindset. NOTE: people can fall into multiple categories.
- (+) List the people who add to your life with their attitude and/or energy.
- (x) List the people who add to your life and multiply your joy, fulfillment, and happiness by bringing other like-minded people into your world.
- (-) List the people who subtract from your life by showing up unhappy and/or reducing your energy.
- (÷) List the people who subtract from your life in a way that is emotionally dividing with drama, perpetual unhappiness, and difficulty.
It’s important to remember as you classify the people in your life that you are not labeling them positive or negative; instead, you are identifying their impact on your energy. Some of the people who subtract or divide your energy may be related to you, which means you can’t remove them from your life, even if you want to. The purpose of the exercise is awareness so you can consciously decide how much time you spend with people in the different energy levels.
If you want to elevate your life, elevate the people around you.
